So, I watched the recently released Kannada movie 6-5=2 last week. It was a nice experience for many reasons...
The story involves a bunch of people who go for a trek in the western ghats near the kukke subrahmanya region. The exact name of the place is kept “hidden” in the movie, but we can safely assume that it was Kumara Parvatha. Or may be the Bisile ghats region. Recently I have watched some “just-OK” level horror movies, like the “Hills have eyes” and the kind. Most of them have this in common: The characters get gruesomely murdered one by one, until one or two them are left to survive and tell the story - so that we all get to hear a nice story in the form the movie. I realised today that when the story takes place in a familiar region and when the characters are doing something that you have done before - in this case trekking - the story instantly becomes a thousand times more involving. And enjoyable.
This is also probably the first Kannada movie to follow the self-shot-documentary format, like the “paranormal activity”. It’s a nice change.
It has its fair share of actors getting killed doing silly stuff - which is another sign of an enjoyable horror movie. I realised that being able to say “haha, that guy/girl is so stupid, he deserves to be killed..” is an essential part of the experience.
May be this will go on to become a cult hit, just like “Shhhhhhhhhhhh”, we’ll have to wait and watch.
TL;DR version:
To all my friends who have gone for a trek in the western ghats, or those who are planning to go trekking in the western ghats, I have this to say: please watch the “6-5=2” movie. You will either recall your trekking moments when you are in the movie theater or recall the movie scenes in your next trek. Either way, it’s an enjoyable experience. You can say “6-5=paisa vasool”.
PS: Even though the location of the movie is not mentioned anywhere, I am convinced that it’s Kumara Parvatha.
PPS: The movie is rated “A”, possibly for the blood-spilling scenes. If this is not your cup of tea, then stay away!
